Being a mom is a job – I truly believe it’s the hardest job you will ever have! What other job makes you feel guilty, sleep deprived, ready to tear out your hair, and full of love and happiness on a daily basis?
But for some ladies, being a mom is not enough. Some moms go back to working outside of the home and some start a side hustle that they can work from home. Others work for an outside company but are able to do their work from home. I am lucky enough to have three gigs that allow me to work from home. I am a blogger, Lipsense distributor and a real estate agent. If you are considering working from home while you have little kids, then this is the series for you!
I have teamed up with four amazing mom bloggers to take you deep inside the world of being a work at home mama. We are sharing all of our secrets to help you become a successful and fabulous work at home mama. Be sure to subscribe to all of the blogs in the series so that you don’t miss a thing!

Six Work At Home Mom Must Haves
Uninterrupted Time for Work– Creating a routine will save your sanity. For myself, it is nearly impossible to work while my son is awake. He wants to be entertained and play with mommy- and I want to spend as much time with him as I can! I utilize his nap time and after he goes to bed at night to work. Knowing what time blocks you can work during will help you be able to focus on the task at hand and help you not stress about when you will find the time to meet a deadline.
Your own work space– As a mom there is very little that we can keep to ourselves- someone is always wanting our food, our attention or their shoes tied. But when you work from home you have to be able to dedicate your full attention to your work. I have found that the best way to do this is to have a space to call your own. Whether it is a desk in a corner, an office, or a lap desk- create a space that works for you and let your family know that this is mommy’s work space and it is off limits! We had a spare bedroom that wasn’t being used that I turned into my office. Being able to shut the door and focus really helps my productivity.
A friend gave me a lap desk for Christmas and I love it! Some nights I like to curl up in bed and watch The Bachelor while I work, and this thing let’s me do just that! I also highly recommend a wireless mouse if you are working from a laptop- it is so much easier to use.
Quality Planner– I know you probably have 973864 things running through your mind every day. The dog grooming appointment, the baby’s doctor visit, and when the bills are due. It is impossible to keep track of it all! For this reason- I love a good planner. And I like my planners like I like my burgers- beefy! I always invest in a planner that has everything that I need so that I have all of my information in one place. I look for one that has a contacts section, notes section, passwords section, daily tasks sections and weekly tasks sections. Become BFF’s with your planner and organize your life. If you write it down you are more likely to remember it and to stick to it!
Break Room– Offices have break rooms for their employees to regroup and take a break from the work grind. I think moms deserve one too- and in the WAHM world that room is called your kitchen 😉 Spend some time making your coffee area feel special. If you have a coffee station, dress it up a little. A cute little chalkboard with an encouraging quote can brighten your day. Maybe invest in some really cute mugs that remind you how amazing you are. I love my Kuerig and seriously look forward to my coffee breaks. Taking a coffee break that makes you feel special will energize you and give you a little oomph to get your work done!
Crockpot– Dinner seems to always be the one thing that never gets done in my house. Okay, that’s a lie- there’s the laundry..and mopping. I need to pencil those tasks into my planner! But most afternoons I am busy cleaning up blow outs and trying to keep a fussy, sleepy baby happy. My trick is the crock pot! I throw something in the crock pot during Levi’s morning nap and by 6pm there’s a delicious meal ready for us and the house smells amazing! If you need some crock pot recipe inspiration check out my Top 10 Easy & Yummy Crock Pot Recipes.
Most importantly, enjoy yourself. You are lucky enough to work from home and enjoy your little ones every day. Soak in those moments where you can squeeze in some play time and treasure those lunch dates with those babies! As they say, the days are long but the years sure are short!
