Happy Half Birthday Levi! These past six months have flown by in the blink of an eye. It truly is amazing how much a baby can change in six months. I don’t know how it’s possible, but my husband and I fall more and more in love with our little man every day. Our favorite saying is “This is our favorite stage!” and I know that we will continue to say that for every stage, for the rest of our lives! And I think that is the most beautiful part of being a parent- you think the stage your in is the most fun but then somehow it gets even better!
Nickname- Boogie, Boogie Boogs, Boogs, DJ Boogie -he got a musical entertainer at Christmas and he has been spinning some beats 😉
Personality- Strong willed, determined, kind of crazy at times- haha. Definitely has his mamas determination and his daddy’s personality. This makes for a very entertaining, unpredictable and very exhausting combination! He can get a temper at times and as he gets older, he is starting to really understand what he wants and makes it known when he is unhappy! He has found his voice over the past month and loves to squeal and squirm when he’s excited! I just love those happy little screams!
Sleep- The holidays threw us off schedule a little and we had some rough nights the week of Christmas. We had a few nights of wake ups around 10pm and we were still on our 3am nursing sessions until Christmas week- I really believe this was because of late bedtimes due to family holiday parties and his schedule just being out of the ordinary. But, the week after Christmas we were blessed with a couple of nights of sleeping through the night (11 or 12 hours!!) and I felt like this was a good sign that he was ready to drop the 3am feeding.
Since then I think we have only had two nights of having to nurse in the middle of the night. One was last night when he woke up about two hours after bed time. I am pretty sure he is about to cut his first tooth and I could tell he was in pain because nothing would calm him down. It is so hard for me to not nurse him in the middle of the night when he is upset because I know that nursing will immediately calm him and comfort him. I am trying to find ways to comfort him without feeding him, because I can’t just pop my boob out when he’s upset that he missed a field goal at the varsity football game!
Food- We are still eating 5 times a day, about every 3 hours. But guess what?!!!!! One of those feedings is a bottle! Hallelujah! Praise Jesus! Whew- this has been one of our biggest challenges. Maybe our biggest challenge! If you read our 5 month update then you remember our struggles with Levi not taking a bottle. He did not take a bottle for almost three months. This was really hard on me because I was pumping every day to have milk for his bottles, only to have him refuse the warmed milk and then I would have to throw my precious milk down the drain! I was tired and man was I frustrated.
Around early December I decided that I would stop pumping because I could not bear having to throw away my milk anymore. I started offering formula in a bottle. I would offer a little formula in a bottle while we were eating solids and I started having the bottle around and trying to get him comfortable with it. After about a week of this he FINALLY took a bottle of formula! As soon as he took the bottle we decided to give him one bottle a day to make sure he stays comfortable with a bottle.
I am giving myself a little grace with pumping as well. If he takes the bottle during middle of the day I don’t pump. But if he takes a bottle for his last feeding before bed then I pump before I go to bed. I want to be sure to maintain my supply.
Fun- Babies first Christmas was so much fun! We both have large families, so we had a ton of Christmas events! We had some struggles with being out past bedtime, but overall he did really well! He let a ton of family members hold him which was a great improvement over Thanksgiving. We met Santa (twice!) and soon found out that we are not his biggest fans. Actually- we are not fans. Haha!
Developments- Levi is still rolling around like a crazy man. He’s been sitting up on his own for a couple of months now, so we are getting ready to crawl! He just this week started getting up on all fours and rocking back and forth so we are making some progress. Please pray for us because I do not think Mama and Daddy are ready for a crawler. We have to get this house baby proofed and get some baby gates up ASAP!
Another development that really has amazed me is playing peek-a-boo. He will turn his head and hide it in a pillow or his high chair and hide from you. Then if you say “Where’s Levi?!” he will turn around and smile. He will do this over and over. It just really shows me how much he is growing and learning and it’s so cool!
Shaking things (toys, clothes, anything)
Our dog- still obsessed with her!
Chewing on anything and everything
Diaper changes (I need some advice on how to keep him still!)
Not getting what he wants
Certain baby foods (he has been very picky this past month)
What is your best advice for preparing for a little crawler?
